Comprehensive care, two convenient locations
Psychiatry is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
Our psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner also provides psychotherapy which is helpful in identifying and addressing issues that make you more likely to develop a substance use disorder. It will also help you learn coping techniques and develop valuable social networks.
Many people enjoy an alcoholic drink occassionaly, but some people’s drinking becomes excessive and uncontrollable.
Olympic peninsula health services provides medication assisted treatment ( MAT), combining medication with counseling and behavior modification techniques.
Medications we prescribe for alcohol dependence include naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram.
Many individuals also benefit from group therapy and support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
Opioids, including illegal substances like heroin and fentanyl, as well as prescription medications like oxycodone and over-the-counter options like Kratom, pose a significant risk of addiction. They initially offer relief from pain and anxiety, inducing euphoria, but as tolerance builds, higher doses become necessary. Eventually, dependence can reach a point where opioids are required for daily functioning. Overcoming opioid addiction is challenging, with withdrawal being a major obstacle. At Olympic Peninsula Health Services, we offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) or Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and cravings, proven effective for sustained recovery from opioid use disorder.Learn More
